TAFE (Tractors and Farm Equipment Ltd) has acquired the Serbian manufacturer of tractors and agricultural machinery IMT (Industria Masina i Traktora).
It known that the Indian company was the only bidder for the purchase of IMT‘s production facilities, equipment and brand.
The bankrupt Belgrade company purchased for around €600,000.
Until 2015, the IMT tractor company produced plows, trailers, planters, and cultivators.
At the same time, the brand known for its tractors (35-200 hp), which were popular in Eastern Europe, North Africa and the Balkans.
The agreement gives TAFE the right to use the IMT brand, all its design solutions and trademarks.
The company plans to produce 5,000 IMT tractors over the next 5 years.
TAFE has plants in India, China and Turkey, and is the world’s third largest tractor manufacturer by volume.
The company manufactures tractors with a capacity of up to 100 hp. under various brands including MF, TAFE and Eicher.
The number of cars sold annually exceeds 150,000 units. TAFE has a 25% share of the Indian tractor market.
The company has a long 55-year history with the Massey Ferguson brand and recently became a significant shareholder in AGCO.
