Hannoversche Maschinenbau AG (Hanomag) is a large German engineering plant, manufacturer of trucks and cars, locomotives, tractors, loaders and military equipment.
On March 10, 1871, the company “Hannoversche Maschinenbau Actien-Gesellschaft” was founded in Germany, which literally means “Hannover Engineering Joint Stock Company”.
Since the full name turned out to be too long and therefore not very convenient for everyday use.
In 1904 Erich Metzeltin, who was at that time the director of the company, decided to shorten it to the initial letters of each word in order to save telegraph costs.
As a result of this, the Hanomag society arose.
Steam locomotives, convertibles, tanks, minibuses, bulldozers, tractors – this is not a complete list of the variety of equipment that produced within the walls of enterprises called Hanomag.
Unfortunately, Hanomag has learned from personal experience that over-expanding its product range is not profitable in the long term.
Throughout the existence of the company, management systematically had to abandon one name or another, increasingly reducing the list of products and specializing its production.
In 2002, the company was completely purchased by the Japanese engineering giant Komatsu.
