FORDSON Tractors History

Some FORDSON Tractor Manuals PDF are above the page.

In May 1917, Ford received the first large order for tractors. The UK government organized the plowing of wastelands and agreed with Ford to supply 5,000 cars at a cost of “plus $ 50”.

Already in 1918, Ford became the largest tractor manufacturer in the United States, producing 30 thousand cars. 1919, Ford bought out the shares of former companions, and tractor production gained access to all the resources of the Ford Motor Company. At the same time Ford laid the assembly plant in Cork (Ireland), which worked until 1932. Until 1922, 738 thousand tractors were sold worldwide.

Ford, as usual, relied on a single model, but cheap and massive. Fordson, with metal wheels, 20-horsepower engine, weighing 1130 kg, in 1918 cost $ 880, in 1921 – 625, in 1922 – 395. Thanks to the already well-established sales of Ford products, tractors fell into the most backward and remote agrarian areas of the country.

1920s, demand exceeded production capacity, Ford thus did much to restore the economy after World War I, but at the same time he suffered losses in the production of tractors. In the end, it was bypassed by companies that produced specialized machines that met the needs of successful, solvent farms.

In 1928, Ford closed the tractor production in the United States. In 1932-1933, company moved to London, where it worked under the Fordson brand until 1964, and then changed the sign to just Ford.
